Venous Duplex Study

A venous duplex ultrasound is used to examine the veins in the legs and abdomen to check for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) — a potentially dangerous condition involving blood clots. It uses Doppler imaging to evaluate blood flow and identify areas of obstruction.

Common reasons for this test include:

  • Leg swelling or pain
  • Prolonged immobility
  • Recent surgery or travel
  • History of blood clots or clotting disorders

Early detection of DVT is essential to prevent complications such as pulmonary embolism, where a clot travels to the lungs.
