An EP study maps the electrical signals in the heart to diagnose arrhythmias. Catheters are threaded through a vein into the heart to record electrical activity from inside and determine the source of irregular rhythms.
It is used for:
- Diagnosing SVT, atrial fibrillation, or ventricular tachycardia
- Planning treatment strategies like ablation or ICD placement
- Assessing risk of life-threatening arrhythmias
The study is done under conscious sedation or anesthesia.
